nostalgia at natl stadium

i was present at the national stadium closing ceremony. to take a last look at the Old Lady who has brought so many memories to my secondary school life. check out the spotlight! so freaking bright its reported it is equivalent to 100,000 car headlights put together.

i was at east entrance! opp the grand stand. and it was exactly the entrance i was assigned for my ndp performance in 2003!

lighting the cauldron for the last time.

singapore vs australia. we're no match at all. 0-3

my father was so glued to the match he didnt want to answer my question. :/

the tkss band coming out from the same entrance as my performance!

i really like the tkss band. they are so "sud"! super zai! their uniform makes them look smart and their dressing is always neat! marvellous! haha.

and the band major is a girl! omg!

i was so excited when i saw the band and told my dad to watch out for them cos they are really good.
my father said: i cant even hear the band. dont even know what are they playing.
me: (instantly shoot back) thats because the stadium is so noisy. its already considered very loud w/o microphone k.

sadly very few pple appreciate band music. and they dont have any idea at all it is not easy to get that kind of standard, that volume, that dressing.
i think i cant even walk and play (instrument).

like the saying goes, to prepare a 3min performance, you require 10 years of hard work.
and no one will know how much effort is needed to master the drills, playing, discipline everything to perfection except the people in it.

fireworks! but it was pathetic. no kick at all. haha.

last glimpse of the national stadium. it has indeed hold many memories.

oh ya! they played a video of the various events held there before. and GUESS WHAT?!?!

the 2nd last picture was cedar's ndp 2003 performance! yes! and it was flashed for 6-8 seconds the longest time as other pictures were only flash and go like 2 sec? i could virtually picture myself in that picture, exactly where i stood in that huge star! i proudly boast abt it to my father and sister and her friend! and my father actually asked "huh is it? are u sure its your performance?" he clearly forgotten abt it when he was actually there to witness it with my mum that year. sighs. but nonetheless i still feel so proud and honoured that they actually chose our performance out of so many past parades to display for the public to watch during its closing ceremony.

why must they tear down the old national stadium? its still in good condition. everyone interviewed prefer the old stadium. they're wasting resources! im not looking forward to the new sports hub because there's nothing i can connect it with.

i miss gg to the stadium during national track and field meets! everyone wld say, a sea of blue. im so proud of cedar. and me and my friends go ga-ga over our "idols" haha! seriously funny. running to the toilet during lesson to catch a glimpse of her there.

and syf flash card display too! together with sji, nygh, and chinese high. i can never forget how they made us sit under the sun and bake our legs. and went hm with the super obvious tann mark at my mid-thigh (my cousins are still laughing at me abt this). cos its like one thigh but 2 colours - black and white. and the sji boys...yes. BOYS. would throw full-filled 1litre bottles at us and there was a bottle fight between us. and i rmb syf displayed our respective sch crest and we were all so proud of it! there was also free military band performance to watch like the tkss one! i still rmbed tkss won that year. totally amazed by their formations.

half of my sec sch year memories were spent at national stadium. everyday eating kfc chicken for ndp. haha. arrr... oh wells. the new stadium no doubt has better facilities will never be able to replace the old one.
